Kyle Walker is expected to complete a deal to Manchester City worth £50 million in the next 24 hours and our exclusive stats at daily Fantasy Football game Oulala.com show why he's worth every penny.
After losing out on Dani Alves, Man City have turned their attention to Kyle Walker and while the former Barcelona right-back was available on a free transfer, Walker will cost a reported £50 million, but is he worth a price that will equal the world-record transfer fee paid for a defender?
At Oulala.com, we've taken a look at Walker's stats when playing at right-back in the Premier League last season and our analysis reveals exactly why Man City are right to break the bank for the 27-year-old.
Of all 78 players to play at right-back in the Premier League last season, Walker ranked in the top six in as many as seven key areas.
While Walker made a total of 33 league appearances, three from the right side of midfield, for the purpose and clarity of our analysis (focusing on performance and statistics at right-back) we have used appearances (30) and stats at right-back only. This also applies to the other 77 players to feature at right-back for their respective clubs.
The attacking threat Walker provided for Tottenham last season was backed up fully by his stats with his four assists and 1,405 passes both the second highest in English football's top flight by any right-back.
Walker also made 34 key passes, the third most of any right-back in the Premier League. While his 35 successful dribbles was the fourth best.
Walker wasn't just a threat offensively, he also excelled defensively and his stats show again just how good he was.
He ranked as the fourth best right-back aerially, winning 58 duels in the air. While he also ranked as high as sixth in two more key defensive areas, tackles won (68) and clearances (87).
Is Kyle Walker worth £50 million? The stats suggest so, but what do you think?
